Yesterday I was going through my purse and realized my wallet was gone. My heart dropped and my mind scrambled to remember where I had seen it last. I ran out and checked the car, but found nothing. I had lunch at Portillo's with a friend earlier in the day, so I called the restaurant and sure enough, someone had turned in my wallet!
I was so, so grateful and raced to Portillo's to pick up my wallet before anything happened to it. Much to my surprise, the manager said he had one question for me.
"What church do you belong to?"
At first I looked at him blankly, wondering why in the world he was asking me about my church of all things. Not asking my address, or about what cards might be in my wallet to prove it was mine.
But I realized he must have really gone through my wallet, because my temple recommend card with the church's name is tucked behind my driver's license.
"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints," I said.
The manager smiled and handed me the wallet.
Note to self - put my phone number inside my wallet in case I lose it again...
Our ward is joining up with the other ward that meets in our building to do a toddler time class once/month. Each mom takes a turn to teach the lesson. This month it was a cooking class, though the funny quote from Eli afterward when he was telling Ben about it was, “But we didn’t cook anything??” with his funny quizzical look. :) He is a very literal child.
The hour started out with circle time with songs. You’ll notice all the chairs set up – our church provides space for a local Jewish congregation to hold its services for the high holidays in our building.
Then they split into two groups to make some food crafts – one was cat’s eyes, with two crackers, peanut butter, and raisins.
The other table had a worms/dirt station with chocolate pudding and crushed oreos. Eli thought the dirt was real and refused to eat it. Funny kid.

I know... my posts tend to be very long. Here's a shorter one :)
Preface: Grace is the most amazing, wonderful 17-year-old who sits with me almost every week and helps with the boys since Ben is up on the stand. She's also the only teenager we've ever had babysit our kids - she is so great with them. A visitor leaned over today and asked me if Grace was my sister because she was so good with Charlie. She definitely has a gift with children.
On our way to church this afternoon, Eli asked, "Is Grace was going to sit with us at church?"
I replied, "I think so!"
This answer didn't satisfy Eli.
"YES or NO?" he asked curtly.
"Yes!" I replied, really crossing my fingers that she would indeed be there today. I think Eli really looks forward to playing with her each Sunday.
And thank goodness, Grace was there and sat with us. Thank you Grace! We're so grateful for your help. Eli's "YES or NO?" questions have become more fierce lately. He doesn't like wishy washy answers. Like every day after quiet time when he asks, "Can I watch a show? YES or NO?" Funny guy. Ben is convinced Eli is going to be a manager of some sort because he is quite the boss man.
My second story from today is that toward the end of the Sacrament, it was somewhat quiet in the chapel as the water was being passed around. Out of nowhere, Eli starts doing Spiderman hands and singing (a little too loudly): "Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can. Spins a web, any size. Catches thieves, just like flies. Look Out! Here comes the Spiderman..." and then he looks up at me and says with a questioning look in his eyes, "I don't know the rest of the words?"
I think it was funnier in person, but it was all I could do to not bust out laughing. Grace was cracking up and thought it was hilarious Eli was familiar with the Spiderman song. Thank you, YouTube... (he loves the Spiderman theme song video - but not the Batman song, because it's "too scary")
My friend Stephanie gave us this cute jacket/shirt last year and it finally fits Eli! (pants came w/ the outfit too, but Ben grabbed these instead) He wore this to church on Sunday and got lots of compliments. Eli doesn't have dressy shoes to match, but that's ok :) This outfit totally reminded us of Ben Rogers (Steph's husband) and their little boy Ellis. So fun - thanks Rogers!
