Enjoying a new camera lens AND Charlie’s first tooth!

I recently purchased a lens for my Nikon D40 – the AF-S Nikkor 35mm 1.8, which is a fairly new lens, released earlier this year. The demand for this lens has been huge, and it’s been on backorder at most stores online. And those that have it in stock have been selling this lens for more than its list price, because there is such demand. So I bid for the lens on ebay and won! I was SO excited – happy early birthday to me :) The package arrived on Thursday evening and I’ve been enjoying the lens ever since. It has great light AND has autofocus. This is a big deal, as most of my pictures in the past were taken with my 50mm lens that DID NOT AUTOFOCUS. Try taking photos of wiggly, active little kids with manual focus and you’ll see that is tough stuff.

Here’s Charlie, early in the morning when his first tooth finally emerged:

Charlie kept moving his tongue around his bottom gums, feeling the new object in his mouth:

And here’s Eli – it’s rare that I can get him to pause for a picture anymore.

Usually he’s running back and forth from the family room to the living room, like this: (please excuse the messy room – both boys enjoyed pulling many toys out at once that day)

Charlie is such a sweet baby. He gives me the best happy faces!

He looks SO BIG in this picture. No more little baby, but a big baby that moves around and is curious about everything in his path.

I love the back of Charlie’s head.

He is the most cuddly little guy. I wish I had more time to just hold and squeeze him tight.

Here he is, trying to pull up on the couch. It’s harder than it looks :)

Almost there…

Watching the squirrels run around outside. We have some pesky, pesky squirrels that have been eating our green tomatoes. Shame on them! Charlie thinks they’re fun though.

I like Charlies swirly hair on the back of his head.

Your pictures are amazing. I was going through all of them saying "wow, they look so real, what is different?" And then I read your post on getting a new lens. I can't believe how much of a difference a good lens makes! It is incredible. Is this one of those $1500 dollars lenses? I am coveting in a BIG way, both your camera and your lens. *sigh* maybe someday.

No!! This is not a $1500 lens, though I of course have obsessed over those too. But it's just too much money to spend on a lens right now. This lens was only $200!! Which is still a lot of money, but very reasonable as far as DSLR lenses go.
