Last week I got last-minute, free VIP passes to the Shedd Aquarium. The catch was that they were about to expire and I could basically only use them on Friday (the day before Eli’s birthday party). There is more to the story than this, but I’ll spare you the details – I ended up going somewhat last-minute and invited our friends Ronni and Caleb to come along. We squeezed the three kids and car seats into the back of our Altima and spent a good part of the day at the aquarium. It was so fun seeing these 2-year-old boys get excited about the fish, sharks, dolphins, whales, sea otters, etc.
These pictures are from the show in the Oceanarium. Caleb was cracking the people up that were sitting behind him because he couldn’t contain his excitement and kept yelling, “Awesome! Cool!” and having so much fun. Eli loved clapping after each stunt and has re-enacted the experience over and over at home. We say, “dolphin!” and he will clap and say, “Yeah!!!” The only downside to the day was that Eli didn’t get a nap and was a BEAST for the rest of the day, including when we stopped at the store after dropping off Ronni and Caleb – when we were leaving, Eli threw himself down in the parking lot, kicking and screaming and I had to carry him and Charlie (in his car seat) back to the car. Not our finest moment and one I hope doesn’t happen again.
*As a side note to my Chicago friends, if you get to the outside parking lot (close to the Planetarium) before 9:30 a.m., parking is only $11 versus the $16 for 4 hours. That’s a great deal, especially if you ride with someone and you can split the cost.
