Five Percent

We had Eli's 1-year checkup yesterday. He is 50% in height and head size, but 5 percent in weight, coming in at 19 lbs, 7 oz.

I always thought he seemed so chubby! His doctor said it's probably because he's so active and mobile now and he isn't worried about it. At Eli's last appointment, he was in the 25-50 percentile, and before that was always in the 50th.

lol - That's how much Juliana weighed at her 6 month appointment! I've always thought Eli looked chubby too. Hmm...

Yeah, goes to show you that those charts don't really measure health, just numbers. Eli is a very healthy happy kid, growing just like he should. Neither you nor Ben are big, so why should he be?

BTW, Kaelan came in at a whopping 18 lbs, at his 1 yr check up, not even on the charts. Who knows how long we will have to wait to turn the carseat around! But, I feel okay about it because that is how much Levi weighed at his 1 yr appointment, and he is just fine!

Skinny Severson boys!

I don't know about these percentages! He totally looks chubby in the pictures :-). Addie seems much chubbier and more solid than Ella to me and they were in the same percentile at their 15 month check up - who knows!

As my doctor always says, "Well, neither one of you are big people, so why would your kids be?" It all evens out eventually and they end up just fine. Just enjoy him at this stage . . . I'm feeling a little insane with Aidan's current "destruction and mischief" phase. :-)

Sarah, we just had our appointment, too! Sadie dropped from being in the 85th percentile for weight down to the 25th! I was a little freaked (nobody had ever dropped that dramatically!), but my doctor didn't bat an eyelash. Must be all that walking and moving that they're doing . . . Still, Sadie maintains her ginormous head (75th, baby!) Eli is darling. Those cheeks are to die for!

Nathan weighed only 16.5 pounds on his first birthday, so Eli is huge compared to that! I think during the first year they transition from their birth weight curve to their actual curve, so changing percentiles around their birthday isn't that unusual. I bet the fact that he's started walking has slimmed him down some, too.

Can't wait to meet him in person!

Sounds like he's got Lund baby size.

wow, he really lost that weight. Yeah, those weight percentages are crazy. Adele was minus something. Samuel is in the 75th percentile! And I feed him way less often than I ever fed Adele. So I don't know what that's all about. He does seem a little chubbier than she was. I wish I had had a "she's really active" doctor, because that's all it was. My doctor now says it's normal for them to be huge at first since he's breastfeeding. Then to expect a big drop later on.
